Preserving Fife Lake's Legacy

Dedicated to honoring Fife Lake's rich history, the Fife Lake Historical Society is grateful for the contributions of our student volunteers and scholarship recipients. Their exceptional work at our historical venues ensures that the stories of our past are kept alive for future generations to appreciate and learn from.

Volunteers
Leah Durfee, daughter of Tim and Joanna Durfee, plans to pursue an advanced degree in healthcare. She has attended Northwestern Community College throughout high school and is excited to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree while also running in college at either Cornerstone University or Lake Superior State University. Leah very much enjoyed the two summers, 80 hours, she spent with the incredible volunteers at the Fife Lake Historical Society, while interacting with and educating community members and visitors about the history of the Fife Lake area. She is very appreciative of the opportunity and expresses her sincerest gratitude to the Fife Lake Historical Society for a $1,000 scholarship to assist her in pursuing her dreams.

Laina Deike 2023-24

Laina Deike, daughter of Tawni and Brandon Deike, earned the Fife Lake Area Historical Society’s $1,000.00 scholarship due to her volunteer work. She worked for a total of 40 hours of work during the summer across 3 venues. She says that her favorite part of working at our venues was learning the history of her town and interacting with new people. Laina is planning on going to Saginaw Valley State University to pursue a degree in Music Education.

    Elise Bridson 2021

Elise Bridson, daughter of Craig and Amy Bridson, earned a $500.00 scholarship from the Fife Lake Area Historical Society for further studies of her choice after graduation.  Amy completed 40 hours of volunteer work at the museum last summer.  We wish her much success in whatever field she chooses to go into.

    Macey Turner 2019-20

Maycey Turner, a Forest Area High School senior, earned the Fife Lake Area Historical Society's $1,000.00 scholarship for her volunteer work.  Maycey worked 40 hours the summer of 2019 greeting guests and doing routine jobs in the 3 venues.  The summer of 2020 she did 40 hours of "hard labor" in the museum as the venues were closed to the public because of the virus.  She painted, spent time on the ladder cleaning, editing, and labeling displays above the display cases, etc.  Maycey plans on attending Grand Valley State College to pursue a degree in Secondary English Education.  We wish her the best because she is the best.
